STORY:
These beautiful and traditional double weave baskets are individually hand woven by female artisans in the Hwange district of Zimbabwe from ilala palm and hand dyed using tree barks. This is one of Zimbabwe’s best-known basket weaving communities.
A coiled rim, herringbone patterns, and geometric designs characterize this collection, but the specific pattern has been decided by the weaver herself, taking inspiration from her natural surroundings. Every Binga wall basket is different to the rest. These baskets were traditionally (and still are) used by the Hwange people for winnowing grains. Because they are so lightweight we absolutely love these African wall baskets as creative authentic wall décor.
Purchasing a Binga Wall Basket is an act of support for this weaving community, enabling many women to send their children to school for the first time.

These are very easy to hang, you can either string a piece of cotton through the weave at the back of the basket, or you can simply knock a thin nail through the centre into a gap in the weave directly into your wall. Neither method will damage your basket.
These plates have slight variations in design, as these are one-of-a-kind handmade products. If you would like to see what specific styles we have in stock before purchasing please email us at info@nomacollective.com.
