Flying Shuttle Loom Weavers

MEXICO

Family Weaving Cooperative | Mitla, Oaxaca

Outside of Oaxaca City, in the region of the Central Valleys, lies the town of Mitla. This is home to Arturo and his family. Arturo started weaving at the age of 7, and eventually was able to establish his own workshop. He specializes in natural dyes made from plant and insect materials. They use a flying shuttle loom technique with only 100% organic cotton, always dyed with sustainable, non-toxic colors.

Thanks to this workshop he is not only able to support his family, but he is also able to employ local people in the village and support their families too. Arturo and his family are one of the warmest, kindest and most welcoming we know, and we are honoured to be working in partnership with them. Their energy is woven into every thread that they weave. They are incredibly proud of their work and are eager to share their trade, their art with the world. A piece of their culture. Their story to tell.
